As a country, Malawi celebrates safe internet day and this year it is being commemorated on the 6th of February. This years theme is “Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online.” and its amining at raising awareness of a safer and better internet for all, and especially for children and young people.
Among the activities to commemorate SID is a press briefing and a stakeholder panel discussion on how key players can ensure online safety for children and young adults. The panelist will include mwCERT, MACRA and other stakeholders.
The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority and it’s partners will carry out a school outreach programme targeting schools in 27 districts in the Northen, central, eastern and the southern region of Malawi.
The school outreach programme aims at enhancing digital literacy and good cyber hygiene, while equipping school going children and the youth with the necessary digital skills to navigate the cyberspace safely.
It also aims at building the capacity of educators to address cyberbullying within schools and create safe online learning environments.
