The Minister of Information and Digitalization Hon.Moses Kunkuyu KalongaShawa has urged the faith-based community through its leadership to embrace the cyberspace and practice good cyber hygiene. Hon.Moses Kunkuyu KalongaShawa was the Guest of Honour at a cyber security and digitization workshop for faith leaders which was organized by MACRA.
In his remarks the MACRA Director General Daud Elvin Suleman said religious leaders should not be behind as far as issues to do with Cybersecurity are concerned.
“We are in the global village whereby the world is borderless through the internet. Religious leaders can preach across the globe through the internet,” Suleman said.
He advised religious leaders to teach their followers about the cyber laws in Malawi, which include the Communication Act of 2016 and the Electronic Transactions and Cybersecurity Act.
The two-day workshop took place under the theme “social media and cybersecurity” was conducted by renowned communication experts who tackled, issues of social media and cybersecurity as pertaining to the religious community in the country.
Among the notable participants were the Presidential Advisor on religious affairs Rev. Brian Kanwendo, the Secretary General for Blantyre synod, Livingstonia synod and Nkhoma synod and founders and presidents of various church organizations, leadership of the Rastafarians church and Sheikhs and Brothers from the Muslim community.
